SFA Society of Physics selected as outstanding chapter

The Stephen F. Austin State University chapter of the Society of Physics has been selected as an outstanding chapter for the 2005-2006 school year by the
National Society of Physics Students.

The SFA chapter, Sigma Pi Sigma, was selected based on the depth and breadth of activities conducted by the chapter in such areas as physics research, public science outreach, physics tutoring programs, hosting and representation at physics meetings, and providing social interaction for chapter members.

According to Ali Piran, faculty sponsor of Sigma Pi Sigma, in the past 25 years the chapter has been selected for this honor 22 times.

Society membership requires completion of 10 physics-course hours with a 3.5 grade point average and an overall grade point average of 3.0 or above.
