NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for an art class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at The Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches.
"The Incredible Paintable Egg" is part of the Creative Art Saturday program developed to provide a quality enrichment experience for area children, explained Marsha Blount, SFA instructor of art education. "This is the first of three monthly classes we will offer this spring," she continued.
Participants will learn to make egg tempera paint and paint a landscape with eggshells and the egg tempera paint mixture, simulating a technique used by Renaissance artists. Students will also have the opportunity to view the exhibitions currently on display at The Art Center @ The Old Opera House. The class will be taught by Blount and SFA art education majors. Class size is limited to 20.
The $10 registration fee covers the cost of materials and benefits the SFA Art Education Association. Parents may pre-register by e-mailing Blount at blountmarsh@sfasu.edu or by calling (936) 468-5500. On-site registrations will also be accepted at 1:45 p.m. on the day of the event, as space permits. Parents are welcome, but not required, to stay.
Future Creative Art Saturday sessions will be held on April 12 and May 3.
