Artist John Daniel holds one of the catalogs for his exhibition, "John Daniel: works from 1964-2007," currently being displayed at SFA's The Art Center @ The Old Opera House and at the Museum of East Texas in Lufkin. Artist John Daniel will be available from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Stephen F. Austin State University's The Art Center @ The Old Opera House to sign the 60-page catalog complementing his exhibition, "John Daniel: Works from 1964-2007," currently on display at the gallery located at 329 E. Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches.
The $10 catalog details the pieces being shown at The Art Center as well as those currently being exhibited at the Museum of East Texas, 503 N. Second Street in Lufkin. Also included are an artist statement, color and black and white plates of many of the pieces, a chronology of Daniel's career and essays related to Daniel's work.
Daniel, SFA professor emeritus, joined the SFA faculty as an assistant professor of art in 1967 and continued to teach there until his retirement in 2005.
"The exhibition and catalog are a celebration of 43 years of Daniel's art making," said Christian Cutler, director of SFA galleries. "Daniel is best known for his work as a sculptor and as a draftsman, and his work is noted for its sensitivity to material and its comment on the human condition."
The catalogs are now available for purchase at The Art Center. The show runs through Friday, March 7. Gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
