NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of
Fine Arts and School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Warren Leight's "Side Man" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, in the Downstage Theater of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.
The full-length play unfolds through the eyes of Clifford, the only son of a jazz trumpet player and his alcoholic wife, explained Sara Boland-Taylor, Arlington senior and the play's director. "Through Clifford's memories, we learn the story of his broken family and need for his father's love."
Austin Chason, Spring sophomore, serves as assistant director, and Meaghan Rosenberger, Sugar Land senior, serves as stage manager.
Jacksonville junior Jason Zednick portrays Clifford; Austin senior Guy Vizard plays his father, Gene; and Conroe junior Catherine Restivo portrays his mother, Terry. Other cast members include Samuel W. Flash, Cypress senior; Joe Ingargiola, Atlanta junior; Sarah McKinney, Keller senior; and Timothy Olivares, San Antonio senior.
Boland-Taylor has previously served as director of "Bald Soprano," assistant director of "How I Learned to Drive" and "Picnic on the Battlefield" and dramaturg for "Six Degrees of Separation." She has also portrayed Smeraldina in "The Servant of Two Masters," Miranda in "The Tempest," and Leslie in "Sideways Stories from Wayside School" and acted in "The Open Meeting," "Shooting Simone," "Quake" and "The Vise."
