Austin State University College of Fine Arts' Children's Performing Arts Series.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Tickets are still available for both performances of "Amber Brown Is Not a Crayon" on Friday, Feb. 3, in Stephen F. Austin State University's W.M. Turner Auditorium. ArtsPower's production of the musical based on Paula Danziger's best-selling series is being presented at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. by the SFA College of Fine Arts' Children's Performing Arts Series.

Targeted to students in 1st through 5th grades, the production centers on 3rd grader Amber Brown and her best friend, Justin Daniels, who is moving from New Jersey to Alabama. As Amber struggles to come to terms with Justin's leaving, she learns some valuable lessons about the virtues of patience and the meaning of friendship.

"Amber Brown's appeal is universal," said executive producer Mark Blackman. "Kids like her because she is never afraid to say what's on her mind, and parents appreciate her sense of humor and her knack for getting a moral across with out seeming preachy or unrealistic. Plus, since the conflict she faces is one that many young people are familiar with, they easily identify with her dilemma."

Since 1985, ArtsPower National Touring Theatre has grown into one of America's premiere producers of professional Equity theatre for young and family audiences. Its 19 professional touring productions have been seen by nearly seven million people in 43 states, in some of the nation's top cultural centers.

"We are excited to be starting our spring semester with this quality performance," said Diane Flynn, SFA children's series director. "And we encourage teachers and parents to purchase their tickets now for the best possible seating."

Tickets to the performance are $6 for individuals and $5 each for groups of 20 or more. Orders can be placed by calling (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS or visiting the SFA Fine Arts Box Office in Room 211 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building. Payment can be made with cash, check, credit card or school purchase order.
