Legislators to meet at SFA for historical tourism discussion

January 13, 2006– Shirley Luna

Two legislators will be on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus Tuesday to discuss the importance of historical tourism and the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail.

State Rep. Roy Blake and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will hold a public discussion from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. at the Stone Fort Museum. They will discuss Sen. Hutchison's federal legislation, which added the El Camino Real to the national historic trail system, and legislation introduced by Blake in the 79th session of the Texas Legislature, which coordinated the efforts of state and local entities with those of private organizations and charged the Texas Historical Commission with the development of educational and interpretive programs for the trail.

"We are always delighted to have Sen. Hutchison on campus," said Dr. Baker Pattillo, vice president for university affairs. "Both these legislators realize how much we appreciate the work they do for SFA and for Nacogdoches."

Pattillo said parking for guests would be available in the University Center Parking Garage.
