January 26, 2006– Sylvia Bierschenk

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Children's Chorus will be holding open auditions at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, in Room 124 of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

The choir is sponsored by SFA Music Preparatory Division and is open to children in 3rd through 5th grade who demonstrate vocal talent and musical aptitude. The group focuses on intonation, breathing, proper vocal production and diction skills. Vocal confidence is developed through a wide variety of repertoire, including two-part pieces and foreign language texts.

According to Jennifer Weems, the choir's director, "Choir on this level is an intensive and challenging program, offering participants intrinsic rewards and a great deal of fun."

Beginning Monday, Feb. 6, the choir will meet weekly at 5:30 p.m. in Room 125 of the Wright Music Building. A recital in May will conclude the 12-week program.

Weems said students who are unable to audition on Jan. 30 may call her at (936) 654-0878 to set up an alternative time.
