NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Parents and teachers can still purchase tickets for "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" to be presented Friday, Jan. 25, at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., in W.M. Turner Auditorium. Recommended for third through seventh graders, the hour-long production by Theatreworks USA is part of the Stephen F. Austin State University's Children's Performing Arts Series.
The musical was inspired by the life and activities of America's legendary hero, Paul Revere, explained Diane Flynn, children's series coordinator. "And through a unique blend of music, drama and humor, the historical accounts of the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre and Revere's ride warning about the British invasion will come alive for audience members."
The story also tells of a choice Revere, a silversmith, had to make. When his revolutionary friends, John Hancock and Samuel Adams, pressure him to take a stand against British tyranny and join the Sons of Liberty, Revere hesitates. Supporting the American cause would mean losing valuable business from his British customers and risking the safety of his family.
"Our students can definitely learn from Revere's choice between doing what is easy or what is right," Flynn said.
"Seats are still available for both performances, but I encourage teachers and parents to place their orders soon since most of our shows sell out," Flynn continued.
Tickets are $6 for individuals and $5 each for groups of 20 or more. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
The Children's Performing Arts Series is sponsored in part by Citizens 1st Bank of Nacogdoches.
