NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are still being accepted for the spring classes offered through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division.
Students may register for weekly private lessons in harp, piano, classical guitar, violin, Suzuki violin or viola, fiddle, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, trumpet, percussion and voice. The 16-week classes, taught by SFA faculty, begin the week of Jan. 14, and the 12-week classes, taught by SFA student instructors, begin the week of Feb. 4. Guitar lessons, taught by Herbert Midgley and Alan Scott, will also begin the week of Feb. 4.
The Music Preparatory Division also offers three Kindermusik classes for newborns to 5-year-olds. "Village" is an eight-week course for newborns through 18 months that will be held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., beginning Jan. 30.
"Our Time" is a 12-week course for children 18 months to 3 years of age that will meet on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. "Imagine That" is a 12-week course for 3- to 5-year-olds that will meet on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Both of the sessions will begin on Jan. 24.
Musicianship classes will begin the week of Jan. 21, with the Elementary II class meeting from 4:15 to 5:15 on Mondays. Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Elementary I class will meet from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., and the Intermediate I and II classes from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The classes all meet in Room 302 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.
Choirs will also begin meeting the week of Jan. 21, under the direction of Jennifer Weems. The Live Wire Choir, for students in kindergarten through second grade, will meet on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in Room 125 of the Wright Music Building.
Lyric Choir, for third through fifth graders, will meet on Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and Junior Chorale, for students in grades six and up, will meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both choirs will meet in Room 153 of the Music Building. Weems will be holding auditions for new students to the Lyric Choir and Junior Chorale from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, and Thursday, Jan. 17, in Room 152 of the Music Building.
Dr. Ping-Ting Lan will teach a 14-week intermediate adult piano class that will meet on Mondays from 6 to 7:30, beginning Jan. 28, in Room 302 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.
