Camellia japonica ‘White by the Gate’ is one of more than 500 camellia flowers expected to be exhibited at the East Texas Camellia Society Show.

Spring will come early at Stephen F. Austin State University when the East Texas Camellia Society and the SFA Mast Arboretum host the society’s camellia show.

Area gardeners will have the opportunity to view hundreds of blooms at the event, to be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28 in the Agriculture Building Room 110 on Wilson Drive.

The East Texas Camellia Society welcomes new members.

“Our programs include growing camellias indoors and outdoors, grafting, trimming, fertilization, getting flowers ready for shows, native plants, and other subjects,” said Hal Vannis, club president.
