Registration open for SFA Music Preparatory Division classes

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are still being accepted for the spring classes offered through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division.
Students may register for weekly private lessons in harp, piano, classical guitar, violin, Suzuki violin, cello, flute, percussion, horn, saxophone and voice. The 16-week classes, taught by SFA faculty, begin the week of Jan. 15, and the 12-week classes, taught by SFA student instructors, begin the week of Feb. 12. Guitar lessons, taught by Herbert Midgley and Alan Scott, will also begin the week of Feb. 12.
The Music Preparatory Division also offers three Kindermusik classes for newborns to 5-year-olds. "Village" is an eight-week course for newborns through 18 months, "Our Time" is a 12-week course for children 18 months to 3 years of age and "Imagine That" is a 12-week course for 3- to 5-year-olds. Each of the sessions will begin the week of Feb. 12.
Musicianship classes will begin the week of Jan. 22, with the Elementary II class meeting from 4:15 to 5:15 on Mondays. Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24, the Elementary I class will meet from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. and the Intermediate I and II classes will meet from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.
Choirs will also begin meeting the week of Jan. 22. The Live Wire Choir, for students in kindergarten through second grade; Lyric Choir, for third through fifth graders; and Junior Chorale, for students in grades six through eight, are under the direction of Jennifer Weems.
Partial scholarships are available for eligible students in any of the choirs. For information about meeting times, costs and scholarship applications, please call Weems at (936) 645-0878.
Registration forms for any of the classes can be downloaded from the division's Web site at www.music.sfasu.edu/prep and turned in at the SFA School of Music office, Room 150 in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.
