A hearing implant specialist will be the featured speaker at a meeting of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Dr. Donald Goldberg will discuss promoting listening and spoken language for
children who are deaf or hard of hearing. He is co-director of the Hearing
Implant Program at Cleveland Clinic's Head and Neck Institute in Ohio, which
offers evaluations to determine candidacy of clients for cochlear implants.
Goldberg is a speech-language pathologist, audiologist and auditory verbal
therapist.
A former university professor, Goldberg received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He also served as director of the Helen Beebe Speech and Hearing Center in Easton, Penn.
Goldberg co-authored "Educational Audiology for the Limited Hearing Infant and Preschooler" and has presented workshops in the U.S. and other countries including Canada, Australia, Malaysia and Austria.
The SFA chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing is hosting the event, which will focus on early intervention and practical tips for teaching children with hearing loss. Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m.
Professionals may earn a total of five continuing education units from the Texas Speech Language Hearing Association by attending the conference.
