NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble will present a preview of its Winter Tour Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

"We go on tour each winter to show high school band students across the state what SFA has to offer," said Fred J. Allen, the ensemble's director. "This concert will give our local audience a chance to hear the band before we head out the following week to Baytown, Clear Lake, Pearland and Alvin."

The concert will open with "Nitro," a new piece by Texan composer Frank Ticheli. The band will also perform "Tam O'Shanter," Malcolm Arnold's musical portrayal of the old Irish legend.

David Campo, SFA associate director of bands, will conduct Peter Mennin's "Canzona."

The Wind Ensemble will close the concert with "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" from Richard Wagner's opera "Logengrin."

"Although the piece comes from the opera repertoire, this stirring arrangement for band has long been an audience favorite," Allen said.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
