Sylvia Bierschenk - January 29, 2007

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Children ages 6 through 12 may participate in "Celebration of the Art Center Opening for Children" from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at The Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. The event is a part of the monthly Creative Arts Thursday program offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts.

Participants will construct turn-of-the-century party hats and create artwork to go in a book of student art that will be bound by the LaNana Creek Press. Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Art Center building project, explained Marsha Blount, SFA instructor of art and director of the Creative Arts Thursday program.

Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. at The Art Center. Cost is $5 per child. A separate book entry fee of $10 will be charged to students who wish to have their artwork published in the book.
