Regents approve faculty appointments

Stephen F. Austin State University regents approved several faculty appointments at their July meeting. Faculty members were appointment to the following positions:

Business Esther Bunn, lecturer of accounting; Mikhail Kouliavtsev, assistant professor of economics and finance; Ryan Phelps, assistant professor of economics and finance; and Bruce Runyan, assistant professor of accounting.

Education Carol Bradley, instructor of human sciences; Melanie Brister, clinical instructor of human services; Eric Jones, assistant professor of kinesiology; Mary Olle, instructor of human sciences; Donna Pharris, instructor of human sciences; and Leonard Thornton, assistant professor of kinesiology and health science.

Fine Arts Neal Cox, visiting assistant professor of art; Addison Himes, dean of College of Fine Arts and professor of music; David Howard, associate director of choirs and instructor of music; Michelle Rozic, assistant professor of art; and Scott Shattuck, director of School of Theatre and associate professor of music.

Liberal and Applied Arts Frances Bontempo, visiting assistant professor of psychology; Ericka Hoagland, assistant professor of English and Philosophy; Brian Murphy, dean of the College of Liberal and Applied Arts and professor of political science; Manuel Rilo, assistant professor of Modern Languages; Jeffery Roth, assistant professor of geography; and Elizabeth Tasker, assistant professor of English and philosophy.

Sciences and Mathematics Michael Collyer, assistant professor of biology, and Anita Johnson, clinical instructor of nursing.

Regents approved the following staff appointments: Meredith Doyle, assistant coach womens basketball; Douglas Karleskint, assistant coach mens basketball; Ulric Maligi, assistant coach mens basketball, Jane Ross, campus recreation coordinator of promotions; Zykia M. Sam, telephone outreach program supervisor; Casey Perry, clinical audiologist in human services; Ron Worth, keyboard technician; Tristan Adams, Programmer Analyst I; David Michael Hutson, videographer; Michael S. Allen, assistant coordinator, purchasing and inventory HUB/System Specialist; Monica Martinez, telecommunications and networking security support specialist II.

The following changes of status were approved: Bill Cox, from admissions counselor to coordinator of enrollment management; Kimberly Lower, from admissions counselor to assistant director of admissions; Dixie Mercer, from associate professor of human services to professor and chair of human services; Lisa Mize, from associate professor of human services and interim associate dean of education to associate professor and associate dean of education; David Campo, from instructor of music to assistant professor of music; John Goodall, from interim dean of fine arts and professor of music to associate dean of fine arts and professor of music; David Lewis, from director of the School of Art and associate professor of art to associate professor of art; Aurora Martinez, from human resources representative to benefits coordinator; John Wyatt, from employee relations specialist to human resources representative; Charles Abel, from chairman and associate professor of political science, geography and public administration to chairman of criminal justice and chairman and associate professor of political science, geography and public administration; Freddie Avant, from professor of social work to director/associate dean and professor of social work; Linda Harris from social work lecturer to clinical instructor of social work.

Other status changes approved included Wanda Mouton, from associate professor of communication to interim chair of communication and associate professor; Elizabeth Spradley, from lecturer of communication to instructor of communication; Robert Spradley, from lecturer of communication to assistant professor of communication; James Standley, from dean of liberal and applied arts and chair of criminal justice to professor of sociology; Jerry Williams, from chair and professor of sociology to chair and professor of sociology and interim chair of English and philosophy; Sean Bibby, from library digital projects specialist for 50 percent time to digital projects specialist for 100 percent time; Melissa Boiles, from program director to program director and interim director of library Academic Assistance and Resource Center; Charlotte Sullivan, from government information officer to coordinator of special projects; Charles Hueber, from assistant director of student activities to assistant director of student life; Michael Preston, from assistant director of student affairs to director of student life; Samuel Smith, from director of student center to director of student services and the student center; Jason Lisenby, from support specialist to manager of student technical support; Shelly Lackey, from assistant director of student affairs operations to director of divisional operations.

Tenure was awarded to Dr. Brian Murphy, political science, geography and public administration; Dr. A.C. Himes, music; and Scott Shattuck, theatre.

Regents approved the retirements of Dr. James Howard, associate professor of economics and finance; Dr. Clarence Bahs, director of School of Theatre; Dr. Susan Ormsby, professor of accounting; and Dr. Debra Bankston, lecturer of human services.
