Still time to see all three shows in SFA's summer theatre season

Sylvia Bierschenk - June 24, 2008

Stephen F. Austin State University theatre students Sarah Zabinski and Daniel G. Gambill rehearse a scene from SFA's production of Beth Henley's "Crimes of the Heart." Here, Zabinski's character, Babe Botrelle, explains to her lawyer how she shot her husband. Henley's Pulitzer Prize-winning play is one of three productions included in SFA's Summer Repertory Theatre season, which continues through Saturday, July 12.

Season tickets are still available for Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's summer repertory season that includes a one-hour children's musical and two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays.

The three shows, offered in a rotating schedule, are Aurand Harris' musical adaptation of Aesop's fable, "Androcles and the Lion," Beth Henley's "Crimes of the Heart" and Alfred Uhry's "Driving Miss Daisy."

"Androcles and the Lion" will be presented at 2 p.m. Monday, June 30, and at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, and Thursday, July 10, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

"Crimes of the Heart" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1; Friday, July 11; and Saturday, July 12, in the Downstage Theatre. It is recommended for mature audiences.

"Driving Miss Daisy" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2; Thursday, July 3; and Tuesday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

"We've had good audience response from the productions thus far," said Alan Nielsen, artistic director of the 2008 summer repertory series. "We've still got two full weeks left in the season, so there's still time to take in all three shows and take advantage of the money-saving season ticket prices."

Season tickets are $24 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Single tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for seniors, students and youth. For tickets or more information on each production, please visit www.sfasu.edu/finearts or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
