NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The women's choirs from Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A & M University will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
"This is a unique opportunity to hear two collegiate women's choirs," said Michael Dean, SFA assistant professor of music and director of the SFA Chamber Women's Choir. "We have sung with the A & M choir at several Texas Collegiate Women's Choral Festivals, but this will be our first concert together apart from that event."
For its portion of the program, the SFA choir will reprise several selections from its most recent concert on March 7. The choir, which is open to all female student singers at SFA, specializes in the performance of music for women's voices, both accompanied and unaccompanied.
The Texas A & M Women's Chorus consists of approximately 60 women and is directed by Jess Wade III, assistant coordinator of choral activities. The choir has performed throughout Texas and in Washington, D.C., New York, Canada and Great Britain. Its repertoire includes sacred, secular and popular music; folk song arrangements and Broadway show tunes.
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. For more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
