March 23, 2006– Sylvia Bierschenk

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are now being accepted for two sessions of "Renew Yourself in Art," a four-day retreat for art educators offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art.

Open to community college and high school art teachers, the retreats will be held on the SFA campus Sunday, June 11, through Wednesday, June 14, and Sunday, June 25, through Wednesday, June 28.

The retreat offers art educators a chance to renew their creative selves, explained Peter Andrew, SFA professor of art and co-director of the retreats. "We will offer stimulating studio workshops with professional artists and members of the SFA art faculty, as well as seminars on art history by SFA art historians Dr. David A. Lewis and Dr. Bradley C. Bailey."

The summer workshop also includes visits to the SFA planetarium and observatory, a tour of downtown art galleries and antique shops, and an SFA musical performance, added Marsha Blount, SFA art instructor and retreat co-director. "The heart of the program is to provide an aesthetic experience for art educators, with time and space to devote to their own artistic development," Blount continued.

Continuing Professional Education credits may be obtained through participation.

Meals, on-campus lodging and art supplies are included in the $280 registration fee.

Each session is limited to the first 30 registrants, and the registration deadline is Friday, April 8. Applications and instructions for registering are available at www.art.sfasu.edu/retreat.

For more information, e-mail Blount at blountmarsh@sfasu.edu. Inquiries should include the educator's school name, teaching level, school telephone number and e-mail address.
