A professor of classics from the University of Texas at Austin will give a guest lecture at Stephen F. Austin State University at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 31. In this talk, "The Classical Background to Early Christian Views of Homosexuality," Dr. Thomas K. Hubbard will speak about the influence of ancient philosophers on the writings of St. Paul.
Dr. Hubbard has published on a wide range of topics in Greek and Roman literature, especially lyric poetry and drama. He is a renowned expert in gender issues in the ancient world, according to Dr. Anne Collins Smith, SFA assistant professor of philosophy and classical studies.
The Classics Outreach program at UT Austin is sponsoring the program, with local arrangements being made by the SFA Classical Studies Program, the Gender Studies Program, and the Department of English and Philosophy at SFA.
