Dr. Freddie L. Avant, professor of social work at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been elected president elect for the National Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors. He will serve one year as president elect and a two-year term as president of the social work professional organization that represents more than 450 accredited undergraduate social work programs. Avant, who also serves as director of SFA’s bachelor's program in social work, has been a social work educator and practitioner for more than 20 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Ph.D. in social work from Jackson State University.
