SFA Wind Ensemble to perform

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Stephen Peterson, director of bands at Ithaca College, will guest conduct the SFA Wind Ensemble in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Cole Concert Hall. He will also participate in a conducting symposium at SFA the following day.

Peterson, who worked as an assistant and interim band director for the SFA bands from 1985 to 1988, will conduct Ralph Vaughn Williams' "English Folk Song Suite." Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands will conduct "Serenade" by Richard Strauss.

"Because of Saturday's conducting symposium, the concert will feature a different conductor on each piece," explained Allen.

David W. Campo, SFA associate director of bands, will conduct his transcription of "Ebullience" by Stephen Lias, SFA associate professor of composition. Brett A. Richardson, assistant director of bands, will conduct "Cajun Folk Songs" by Frank Ticheli. Other conductors include graduate students Ronnie Pruitt of Hemphill and Jerry Gonzalez of Garland.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.
