SFA Music Preparatory Division offers summer lessons and camps

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division is currently accepting registrations for its summer programs.

Flexlessons for private study of piano, voice, guitar, harp, flute, Suzuki violin, cello, and traditional violin are available to children and adults. Inquiries for study of other instruments are encouraged and can be added.

"Students can sign up for either four, six or eight lessons," said director Pat Barnett. "We recognize that families' summer schedules are full, so we offer a variety of flexible options."

Kindermusik Adventure Camps, designed for newborns through 5-year-olds and their adult caregivers, will be held Monday, July 24, through Friday, July 28. "Oh, What Busy Days," for newborns to 18-month-olds, will meet from 9 to 9:45 a.m. "Creatures at the Ocean," for children 18 months to 3 years, will meet from 10 to 11 a.m., and "On the Road," for 3- to 5-year-olds, will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Cost for the camps is $75, $100 and $110, respectively, and includes take-home materials.

Karen Greer, certified Kindermusik teacher, will teach all three camps. Registration deadline is Monday, July 10. Class sizes are limited.

Students in first through sixth grades may learn about Russian history and great Russian composers during the Music Discovery Camp, "Cinderella - Then and Now," which will meet from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 14.

"In addition to listening to some of the world's most beautiful music, students will take part in creative writing, games and crafts, " said instructor Jennifer Weems.

Cost is $65 and includes all supplies. Registration deadline is Friday, June 30.
