The presidents of Angelina College and Stephen F. Austin State University met Friday to formalize an agreement for the Connect 2 Success program, which will allow students who do not meet SFA admission requirements to enroll at Angelina College and participant in student activities at both institutions. SFA’s Dr. Tito Guerrero III, left, and Dr. Larry Phillips, Angelina College, said the agreement will help keep students focused on the goal of attaining a four-year degree.
Potential Stephen F. Austin State University students who do not meet the university’s admission requirements may benefit from Connect 2 Success, a new partnership between the university and Angelina College. The program allows students to register full time at Angelina College and participate in activities offered by both institutions.
Students in the program will receive counseling and pre-advising by SFA’s Office of Admissions – Transfer Services to ensure seamless transferability of courses. At Angelina College, the students will be provided fully transferable course work, a flexible schedule and affordable tuition, said Dr. Larry Phillips, Angelina College president.
“This program is an extension of the Angelina College philosophy toward preparing every student for the next level of academic success,” Phillips said. “There have been excellent results with similar programs around the state joining local community colleges and universities. We feel that with SFA and AC working hand-in-hand for the students’ benefit, we can experience that same measure of success, and can attract and keep more students in East Texas.”
Along with academic guidance and support at AC, including tutoring and study skill development, the students will have access to the SFA library, free admission to SFA home athletic events with a valid Angelina identification card and free or discounted admission to student-related activities at SFA.
“In addition to being an attractive option for East Texas students, we hope that students from the Dallas and Houston areas and across the state will realize that they can come to East Texas for an education, attend classes at Angelina and still be a Lumberjack,” said Dr. Tito Guerrero, SFA president.
Students may choose to complete their associate’s degree at Angelina or may apply for full admission at SFA when they complete 15 college-level, transferable credit hours with a grade point average of 2.0. Financial aid and scholarships are available to students who qualify.
