NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS-The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will once again host a series of band camps for junior and senior high school instrumentalists and drum majors during the month of June.
"Approximately 1200 band students from all over the state of Texas and beyond will visit campus to receive top quality instruction in small and large group settings," said David Campo, SFA associate director of bands.
The Junior High Band Camp, designed for students entering 7th or 8th grade in the fall, begins Sunday, June 4, and continues through Friday, June 9. Each of the five bands formed during the camp will perform on the camp's last day.
High School students will arrive on campus Sunday, June 11, and stay through Friday, June 16. All five bands will present closing concerts, with Col. Arnald Gabriel conducting the Honors Band.
The SFA Percussion Symposium for junior high and high school students will begin Sunday, June 18, and conclude on Friday, June 23, with performances by the camp drum lines and percussion ensembles.
During that same week, 9th through 12th graders may attend one of two drum major camps. One will focus on corps style marching and the other on military style.
