NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Friends of the Visual Arts Board at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a studio tour and cocktail party at the studio of Mary McCleary, professor emeritus of the SFA School of Art, on Sunday, June 11. The event is open to any members who have donated $300 or more to the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts or the SFA Gallery Fund during 2006.

"Participants will be able to visit with Mary about her work and career and tour her studio which overlooks the beautiful formal gardens and home designed by her husband, architect Jerry Sutton," said Ster Dubberly, events chairperson.

McCleary recently retired from SFA where she had taught since 1975 and was named a Regents Professor. She has participated in over 240 solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in 24 states, Mexico and Russia. Her next exhibition will open Saturday, June 3, at the Moody Gallery in Houston.

Dubberly said attendees will also hear an update on the renovation of The Art Center at the Old Opera House from Shannon Bailey, SFA gallery director.

"The renovations to The Art Center are possible in part through the generosity of our local contributors," explained Bailey. "And this studio tour is just one way the Friends of the Visual Arts Board can say thank you to those supporters."

The board will host a final appreciation event on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the home of Dr. Shannon Smith and Mr. Mike White. A gourmet meal prepared from recipes from the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be served on dining tables designed and set by some of Nacogdoches' premier hostesses. The Fabulous Friends of Art Dinner will be open to donors who have contributed $500 or more to the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts or the SFA Gallery Fund during 2006.

"All gifts made in 2006 are cumulative," explained Dubberly. "So a patron's additional contributions could make him or her eligible for the McCleary studio tour and/or the September dinner."

For questions or more information, contact Dubberly at (936) 569-0797 or Shannon Bailey, SFA gallery director, at (936) 468-1131.
