More than 100,000 SFA diplomas awarded

Shirley Luna - May 11, 2007

Commencement exercises at Stephen F. Austin State University are always momentous occasions, but the spring commencement ceremony of 2007 will go in the record books as an especially important day. The 100,000th diploma has been awarded by the university.

“We will not be able to determine which graduate will receive this diploma until final grades are entered and degrees are conferred several weeks after the ceremony,” said Sherry Wells, SFA registrar. “But this is an important occasion in the university’s history.”

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples served as the commencement speaker.

More than 1,100 degrees will be awarded by the university during the ceremony, including 875 bachelor’s degrees, 251 master’s degrees and nine doctorate degrees in education.
