Registration deadlines are approaching for summer band camps at Stephen F. Austin State University.
If registering online, the deadline has been extended to June 2 for Junior High Band Camp and through June 7 for High School Band Camp. Deadline for Drum Major Camp is June 13. Cost is $390 for the junior high and high school band camps and $290 for the drum major camp.
Commuters may attend for $190, which includes the cost of lunch.
Camp director Gary Wurtz said camp attendance has increased considerably the past couple of years. The fact that commuters can attend camp for half the cost is an extra incentive for area students to attend, he said.
Col. Arnald Gabriel, retired U.S. Air Force band director, will return to the high school camp this year to direct the High School Honor Band. Jeff King, author of "Foundations for Superior Performance" will also participate.
SFA's Fred Allen and David Campo, director and associate director of bands, respectively, also are featured camp educators.
In addition to group work, students will participate in exercises such as music theory, sight-reading and master classes customized for their specific instrument.
Swimming, movies, game night, dances, competitions, concerts, volleyball, basketball and pizza parties will add to the fun.
Registration forms are available online, and payments may be made on the Internet for the first time this year. For information, visit www.sfasu.edu/musiccamps.
