James L. Sexton, former director of supervision for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and former banking commissioner of Texas, recently spoke to area bankers and Finance Club students at Stephen F. Austin State University.
At the FDIC, Sexton was responsible for the safety and soundness of all FDIC-insured banks and managed 2,000 bank examiners and a 500-member support staff.
During his tenure as banking commissioner of Texas from 1983 to 1986, Sexton assisted in shaping the legislative process to bring about major changes in banking laws and regulations, ensuring local banking services for communities in which bank failures had occurred and assisting larger banks in obtaining capital resources.
Sexton currently works as an advisory director and operational advisor for East Texas-based Citizens 1st Bank.
The event was hosted by the SFA Finance Club and the Nelson Rusche
College of Business.
