SFA percussionists to present holiday concert and toy drive

Members of the SFA Percussion Ensemble and Steel Drum Band don their holiday attire in preparation for their holiday concert, "Percussion in the Pines," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Cole Concert Hall.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - "Percussion in the Pines," a joint festive holiday
concert by the SFA Percussion Ensemble and Steel Band, will be presented at
7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The ensembles feature over 20 student performers and are both directed by
Dr. Scott Harris, SFA assistant professor and percussion director.

"This will be the first holiday concert the two groups have ever presented
together," said Harris. "We hope to make it an annual event."

Classic holiday tunes such as "Jingle Bells," "Frosty the Snowman" and
"Carol of the Bells" will be performed as well as lesser known pieces such
as "Fum, Fum, Fum" and "I Saw Three Ships."

"Of course, with the SFA Steel Band, you can always count on the traditional
limbo dance--even in winter!" said Harris. "So bring your family, wear your
Santa hats and join us for a wonderful and festive evening."

As part of the concert, the percussionists, Phi Boota Roota and the
Canterbury Association will be teaming up for a toy drive to help the less
fortunate children of Nacogdoches. Patrons are invited to bring a new toy
to the concert and leave it at the collection table.

Anyone who would like to participate in the drive but cannot attend the
concert can drop off a toy at the Wright Music Building or contact Harris at
sharris@sfasu.edu or by calling (936) 468-1233.

Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for
students. For tickets or more information, please visit
www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
