Exhibit to include SFA and area high school students' work

Sylvia Bierschenk - November 30, 2006

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - An exhibition of artwork by Stephen F. Austin State University art education majors and students from Nacogdoches and Central Heights high schools will be on display Wednesday, Dec. 6, and Thursday, Dec. 7, in Room 141 of the SFA Art Building.

The gallery will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the close of the 6:30 p.m. reception on Thursday.

The exhibition is the culmination of a nine-week program in which the approximately eight high school students have been coming to the SFA Art Building to receive instruction from SFA students enrolled in Art Development III, taught by Anita Powell, SFA assistant professor of art.

"The program provides practical experience for the future art teachers," explained Anita Powell. "And the high school students benefit from supplemental art instruction."

On display will be some of the works the high school students completed during the program, including a large-scale graffiti installation that Powell called "very ambitious." Artwork by the SFA students will also be included.

The Art Building is located off of Wilson Drive on the SFA campus.

For more information, contact Powell at (936) 468-4262.
