'Tis the season for SFA’s annual tree-lighting ceremony, featuring live musical performances, refreshments, children’s activities, and a toy drive benefiting the Women’s Shelter of East Texas.
The Residence Hall Association is sponsoring the event titled “Holiday Extravaganza” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 27 in front of the Austin Building. All students, faculty, staff, and friends of SFA are invited to attend.
The SFA Roaring Buzzsaws Band will play at 6 p.m., followed by performances by the SFA Choir, the Raguet Elementary School Choir and Soul to Soul Gospel Choir.
The tree-lighting ceremony will get under way with remarks from SFA President Dr. Baker Pattillo. Refreshments will be served, and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available immediately following the tree-lighting ceremony.
“To go along with this year’s tree-lighting ceremony, RHA is hosting a toy drive to benefit the Women’s Shelter of East Texas,” said Laterrious Starks, RHA president. “We encourage all student organizations to donate new, unwrapped toys to help bring cheer to all children this holiday season.”
The toys can be dropped off through Nov. 27 at the RHA office in the Lumberjack Village Community Center, located near the corner of Carolyn and Baker streets, or brought to the tree-lighting ceremony, he said.
In the case of rain, the Holiday Extravaganza will be moved to the Spirit Lounge in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.
