NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Julia Danyang Shan, daughter of Weiming Shan and Ning Xu of Nacogdoches, received third place in the Dallas Piano Solo Competition held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
Shan is enrolled in the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division, studying under Dr. Ping-Ting Lan.
The competition, sponsored by the Dallas Music Teachers Association, was open to students from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. The contestants were divided into age groups, but contestants could register to compete in a higher division.
Shan, 11, competed with 14-year-olds in Division VII. She was required to play "Rondo on Argentine Children's Folk Tunes" by Alberto Ginastera.
"We are so proud of Julia's accomplishments and how well she represented the SFA Music Preparatory Division," said Pat Barnett, division director.
