Forestry Professor Dr. James Kroll

Anyone tuning in to ESPN2 on Dec. 2 has the chance to meet “Dr. Deer.”

Real Tree’s “Whitetail Country” is showing a 30-minute episode featuring Dr. James C. Kroll’s research on white-tailed deer and the impact of his research in the hunting industry.  The episode is set to air at 7 a.m.

“Whitetail Country” features episodes regarding proper deer management and hunting techniques.

Although this is not Kroll’s first television appearance, it is the first time an entire program has been dedicated to him and his work.

Kroll, Regents Professor of forestry at Stephen F. Austin State University, regularly co-hosts the Outdoor Channel’s “North American Whitetail Television,” a program dedicated to offering successful hunting strategies. The show has won two “Golden Moose Awards” from the Outdoor Channel.

Aside from his TV work, Kroll is the director of the Columbia Regional Geospatial Service Center and director of The Institute for White-Tailed Deer Management and Research. As a professor in the department of forestry, he educates students about proper deer management.  He manages more than 100,000 acres of deer populations across the United States., Mexico and Canada using Dogma Farms, a breeding facility for white-tailed deer, to show small landowners effective ways to manage their land.

Kroll began his teaching career at SFA. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Baylor University and a doctorate from Texas A&M.
