SFA regents approve faculty/staff appointments

Stephen F. Austin State University Regents approved the appointment of several key administrators during the fall meeting of the board, including the appointment of Dr. Marlin Young to serve as provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Dr. Richard A. Berry, former dean of the College of Fine Arts, has replaced Young as associate provost. John Goodall, professor of music and programming and development officer for the College of Fine Arts, has been appointed interim dean of the college.

Steven Westbrook, executive director for student affairs, has been appointed to serve interim vice president for university affairs while Dr. Baker Pattillo fills the position as interim university president.

Faculty appointments approved by regents included Dale Spradling, visiting professor of accounting, Marsha Blount, lecturer of art education; and Michael Maurer, assistant professor of agriculture.

Appointments approved for the College of Education included Linda Black, instructor of secondary education and educational leadership; Tracey Covington Hasbun, instructor of elementary education; Stephanie Jevas, assistant professor of kinesiology and health science; Alan Larson, instructor of human services; Ralph Lester Marshall, assistant professor of secondary education and educational leadership; Mark Seaman, instructor of secondary education; Le’Ann Solmonson, assistant professor of human services; and Janet Tareilo, assistant professor of secondary education and educational leadership.

New faculty members approved for the College of Liberal and Applied Arts included Emmerentie Oliphant, associate professor of social work, and Steven Short, visiting assistant professor of history. In the College of Sciences and Mathematics, Roberta Connell was appointed clinical instructor of nursing; Danielle R. Johnson was appointed lecturer of mathematics and statistics; and Antonio Mondragon was appointed visiting instructor of physics and astronomy.

Staff appointments approved by regents included Janet Lynn Mcleroy, admission counselor; Christi L. Coleman, certificate officer/PBIC coordinator; Krista K. Guerrero, assistant coordinator of ATC grant program; Harold E. Hall Jr., assistant director of physical plant; Michael Maningas, student recreation coordinator of outdoor pursuits; and Earl Forney, database specialist for university advancement;

Appointments for athletics include Christopher Ryan Dane, athletic trainer; Trey D. Schroeder, head golf coach; and Christopher T. Watford, assistant softball coach. Athletics status changes were approved, including Brittany M. Burton, from Wellness Center graduate student to strength and conditioning assistant for athletics; John Curta, from intern/coach for athletics to assistant coach for men’s basketball; Tennille R. O’Neal, from intern/coach for athletics to assistant coach for women’s basketball; Adelaida L. Sanchez, from intern to athletics media relations specialist; and Kathy J. Springfield, from administrative assistant for athletics to academic services assistant for athletics.

Other status changes approved by regents included Nancy D. Parr, from substitute teacher to pre-kindergarten II Early Childhood Laboratory teacher; Joey L. Bray, from supervisor broiler research center to associate director poultry research center; Lynn Clark, from accounting supervisor to assistant to the director of the Columbia Regional Geospatial Service Center; and Mark D. Barringer, from associate professor of history to interim associate dean of college of liberal and applied arts and associate professor of history.

Status changes in the College of Sciences and Mathematics included Dr. Beatrice A. Clack, from director/associate professor of biotechnology, to director of development/associate professor of biotechnology for college of sciences and mathematics; and Dr. James K. Langford, from assistant professor of biology to director of pre-professional programs and assistant professor of biology.

Status changes in the physical plant included Lee Brittain, from assistant director to director; Michael B. Rustad, from supervisor building maintenance to supervisor building trades/renovation; Ronald E. Watson, from manager custodial services to assistant to the director.

Other status changes included Susan H. Williams, from assistant to vice president to special assistant to the president; Danny R. Gallant, from director financial services to associate vice president of budget and finance; Donna Parish, from editorial coordinator to assistant director of creative services; and Shirley Luna, from assistant director of public affairs to associate director of media relations.

Reclassifications approved by regents included Lisa Stone, from assistant to the dean of the College of Education to coordinator of the advising center for education; Virginia Walker, from supervisor accounts payable to manager accounts payable; Sheri Mullican, from assistant director career services to associate director of counseling and career services; Donna Teel, from assistant safety officer to safety officer; Rebecca Shepherd, from coordinator of scholarships to assistant director of financial aid; Shawn Hardy, from programmer/analyst I to programmer/analyst II, information technology services; Bryan Tarpley, from instructional systems administrator to systems administrator for office of instructional technology; and Shelly Lackey, from assistant to director auxiliary services to assistant director student affairs operations.

Regents accepted the retirements of Mingteh Chang, professor of forestry; William D. Hearell, professor of English and philosophy; and John D. Rulfs, director of physical plant.
