SFA's Office of Student Life will present a documentary on the outsourcing of America's jobs at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Baker Pattillo Student Center.
The presentation, entitled "30 Days: Outsourcing to India," is part of a documentary series by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock that explores what life changing experiences are possible in 30 days.
In this installment, a computer programmer's life is turned upside down after he loses his lucrative job to the outsourcing phenomenon. He decides to spend one month in Bangalore, India, the outsourcing Mecca of the world, to find out what happened to his job. As part of his experience, he lives with an Indian family working in outsourced American jobs and witnesses firsthand the impact outsourcing has had on Indian culture. He also goes through the lengthy training process involved in landing a job in a call center, a position that's respected and well-regarded in India.
The documentary will be shown in the Multimedia Room next to Starbucks on the second floor of the Student Center. Following the video will be a discussion on outsourcing and how it can affect students? lives. This program is an excellent opportunity for students to have an out-of-class discussion and is a good way to offer up a little extra credit. This event is free and open to the campus community. Refreshments will be served.
