Community members invited to sing 'Messiah'

Stephen F. Austin State University combined choirs and members of the Nacogdoches community sing during the 2005 presentation of Handel's 'Messiah.' Registration is now open for community members to participate in this year's presentation at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations for participation in the community-wide presentation of Georg Frideric Handel's "Messiah" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, are now being accepted through the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.

The school has a long history of presenting Handel's masterpiece during December, said Dr. Tim King, SFA professor of music and director of choral activities. "We invite singers from around the area to join their voices with the SFA combined choirs to once again ring in the holiday season."

Music can be purchased at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore located in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, and practice compact discs are available through the SFA Choral Office.

The entire choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, in Room 125 of the Wright Music Building and at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Once registered, vocalists will receive a packet of information on required music and details about the rehearsals and performance.
