Dr. John Goodall has been named interim dean of the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Dr. Baker Pattillo, interim president, said Goodall has served in a variety of positions at the university that have prepared him for the role as interim dean.
“I have worked with Dr. Goodall for a number of years, and I am very confident in his abilities to lead the College of Fine Arts,” Pattillo said. “He served with distinction as coordinator of undergraduate studies in music for seven years and, for the past year, has served in the dean’s office as programming and development officer for the college. The experience he has gained in these posts will equip him well for his new assignment.”
Goodall said he is flattered and excited to have been asked to serve as interim dean.
“We have an exciting year ahead with things such as the opening of the newly renovated Art Center downtown; many performances and exhibits by the schools of art, music, and theatre; and another increase in enrollment in the college,” he said. “I also believe we have some of the very best faculty, students and patrons on the entire campus, which makes this job very rewarding. All of these things, and more, will contribute to the College of Fine Arts progressing with continued success."
Goodall earned a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University and a master’s from Kent State University. His Doctor of Musical Arts degree is from the University of North Texas.
He joined the SFA faculty in 1980 and currently serves as professor of oboe and music theory. Goodall is a founding member of the Stone Fort Wind Quintet at SFA and is the artistic director for the Chamber Music in the Pines Festival.
Goodall replaces Dr. Richard Berry, who had served as dean since 1998 and is now serving as associate provost of SFA.
