Dr. Mary Nelle Brunson has been appointed to serve as interim assistant provost at Stephen F. Austin State University, to assist with overseeing the university’s academic programs.
“I am very pleased that Dr. Brunson is willing to take on various specific projects in the Office of the Provost,” said Dr. Richard Berry, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “I am confident that she brings to the position considerable skills and valuable experience in dealing with administrative issues. Her recent activities in the very successful re-accreditation process in the College of Education provide her with excellent background for many of the tasks that lie ahead of us.”
Brunson holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in early childhood education from SFA, as well as a doctorate in education from the University of North Texas. She holds professional mid-management administrator certification and professional development appraisal certification.
Before joining the SFA faculty in 1998 as campus academic leader for the NISD/SFA Charter School, Brunson taught in Nacogdoches, Etoile and Brazosport schools.
Brunson has served as assistant chair of the Department of Elementary Education since 2000 and has coordinated SFA’s accreditation with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the professional accrediting organization for schools, colleges and departments of education in the United States.
