SFA interviewing candidates for development VP

Two candidates for vice president of development at Stephen F. Austin State University will be in Nacogdoches to interview for the position. David Z. Nowell of Jefferson City, Tenn., will interview on Sept. 10, and Brooks A. Hull of Norman, Okla., will be on the SFA campus Sept. 17.

Hull, executive director of development for the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering, joined the university in 1999 as director of development for the colleges of architecture and education. He has been responsible for developing and executing a $100-million capital campaign, which surpassed goals and resulted in donations of more than $137 million in five years.

Hull holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in public affairs and administration, as well as a master’s degree in human relations, from the University of Oklahoma at Norman. He is a certified fundraising executive and has received awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. He has served as the council’s director of philanthropy.

Hull is a co-founder and director of Sol, Inc., a corporation that has patented technologies designed to reduce energy costs. The company received the Journal Record newspaper’s Innovator of the Year: On the Brink Award in 2007.

Nowell is senior vice president for advancement and administration at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. In addition to overseeing planning and implementation of a $60-million capital campaign that reached its goal 12 months early, Nowell serves as executive director and president of the Eagle Foundation, a supporting foundation for the college.

During his tenure at Carson-Newman, funds have been secured for capital projects including a $4-million student center, a $10-million football stadium and field house, and academic facilities for family and consumer sciences and the business division, at $4 million and $10 million, respectively.

Nowell holds a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in English and speech from Houston Baptist University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in historical theology from Baylor University.

Nowell is the author of three books: "A Man's Work is Never Done," "Stepparent is Not a Bad Word," and "Futurity and Contingency: An Alternative Paradigm."
