NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Kae Hosoda-Ayer in a guest piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
Hosoda-Ayer, a lecturer in collaborative piano at Baylor University, will perform "Image I" by Claude Debussy, "Venezia e Napoli" by Franz Liszt and "Sonata in b minor, Op. 58" by Frédéric Chopin.
"Each of these pieces was written during a stressful time in the composer's life," explained Hosoda-Ayer.
Debussy was struggling with poverty, depression and marital problems; Liszt was nearing the end of a tumultuous relationship; and Chopin was suffering from poor health, compounded by the news of his father's death.
"It is indeed significant that these composers were able to deliver such seminal works during critical periods in their lives," Hosoda-Ayer continued.
Hosoda-Ayer holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Toho Gakuen School of Music, Tokyo, Japan, a Master of Music degree and Graduate Diploma from New England Conservatory and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance with an emphasis in chamber music and collaborative arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
She has concertized throughout the United States, Canada, Japan and Korea as a soloist and collaborative artist. Together with her husband, clarinetist Christopher Ayer, SFA asssociate professor of music, she forms Duo Karudan. The duo performs recitals throughout the United States, Canada and Japan.
