In addition, it is extremely beneficial to have him in Austin as several important higher education issues continue to evolve throughout the state.”
The Texas International Education Consortium is headquartered in Austin and relies on the expertise and knowledge of more than 25,000 faculty and administrators from 32 Texas universities to provide services to the global educational community. The consortium designs and delivers academic programs and administrative systems to meet the needs of international students and professionals.
The Austin facility also houses offices and classrooms of the Texas Intensive English Program, a subsidiary of the consortium that provides English language instruction to international students from around the globe.
The Texas International Education Consortium is governed by a board of directors, which comprises the presidents of its 32 affiliated universities. The board elects a seven-member executive committee, and the committee meets quarterly.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board was created by the Texas Legislature in 1965 to "provide leadership and coordination for the Texas higher education system to achieve excellence for the college education of Texas students," according to the board’s Web site.
More than 74 percent of the funds appropriated directly to Texas public universities by the Texas Legislature each biennium is allocated by means of funding formulas. The formulas are intended to provide for an equitable allocation of funds among institutions and to establish the level of funding required to adequately support higher education. The coordinating board relies on the Formula Advisory Committee to review the formulas and makes recommendations to the legislature.
A subcommittee of the Formula Advisory Committee is the General Academic Infrastructure Formula Study Committee, a group whose membership is augmented by other specialists, including higher education business officers and physical plant administrators.
