SFA alum to present award-winning documentary

Teresa Hagen, a Stephen F. Austin State University alumna and owner of Cut Loose Productions, will attend the viewing of her award-winning documentary at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. “To Touch the Soul” tells of the experiences of educator and activist Carlos Silveira and several California State University, Long Beach students who traveled to Cambodia to create art projects with children living with HIV/AIDS. Director Ryan Goble will be on the SFA campus to discuss the documentary "To Touch the Soul.” Goble is pictured with children from Little Folks, an organization that helps healthy children who have become the caretakers of their parents who have AIDS or who have become orphaned because of the disease. Behind them is the mural the children painted with Carlos Silveira, a faculty member at California State University, Long Beach, and his students.

An award-winning documentary by a Stephen F. Austin State University graduate will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. Teresa Hagen’s “To Touch the Soul” tells of the experiences of educator and activist Carlos Silveira and several California State University, Long Beach students who traveled to Cambodia to create art projects with children living with HIV/AIDS.

Hagen is the producer/owner of Cut Loose Productions, and she will be at the SFA screening to describe the emotional connection Silveira and the students make with the children as they discover the true meaning of kindness, selflessness and courage. Hagen is a 1978 graduate of SFA with a bachelor’s degree in public relations.

“To Touch the Soul” is the recipient of the Best of Show Award and Honorable Mention from the Accolade competition. The Accolade competition recognizes film, television and video professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. The documentary also has been selected to participate in the La Femme Film Festival, which focuses on women filmmakers.

At California State University, Long Beach, Hagen works as an editor/writer for public affairs and university publications. In addition, she was communications coordinator in 2004 for the non-profit organization, We, The World. She wrote a documentary titled "A Reflection of Margaret Mitchell" and is currently a member of the International Documentary Association, as well as the non-profit Film Independent.

The documentary is directed by Ryan Goble, who also will be at the screening to describe to answer questions.

This event is open to students, faculty, staff and Nacogdoches community members, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a reception following the screening. For more information, call (936) 468-3703.
