Public manager certification program offered at SFA

A program offering public manager certification will begin Oct. 5 at Stephen F. Austin State University. The Certified Public Manager program is a sequence of seven tracks presented during an 18-month period. Each class meets one Friday a month for three months per track.

The program tracks offered are personnel administration; managing for quality; organizational communication; public finance and budgeting; productivity and program evaluation; information system for managers; and an applied research practicum. Participants may take tracks in any order and begin with any track except the practicum.

Each track includes seminars, workshops and field-based projects designed to enhance the skills and abilities that participants need to deal with real world problems and situations. The classes are team-taught by both SFA faculty, professional trainers, and practitioners from a variety of positions in city, county, state and federal governments, school districts, and non-profit and private sectors.

This program is endorsed by the American Society of Public Administration, the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education, and the Texas State Board of Accountancy. It has also been approved for continuing education credit for county officials by the Texas Legislature. Completion of the Certified Public Manager program also entitles the participant to six hours of academic credit through Texas State University at no additional cost.

Participants may sign up for the program track individually or for the entire program. Individuals signing up the entire program will be guaranteed a space in each track. Classes are limited to 25 people.

The first track, personnel administration, will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in Room 101 of SFA’s Human Services Building.
