The primary goal of University Marketing Communications is to tell the amazing stories of SFA.  We create and implement strategic communications initiatives to convey valuable and interesting information that reflects the university’s mission and passion to internal and external audiences: students, prospective students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, elected officials, and stakeholders in Texas and beyond.  By doing so, we will generate positive recognition and active support for SFA’s academic programs and research activities.

Complimentary Services

A majority of UMC's services and resources, such as writing, editing, graphic design and access to our photo repository, are free to university departments and offices.

Photography and Videography

Photography and videography can incur fees related to duration and type of project. View their pages for pricing.

College Marketing Representatives

Each of the university’s six colleges has its own marketing representative to assist your department or office with production, proofreading and marketing campaigns, among other services. Review our list below to find your contact.

Approval Process

Did you know the audience for your project determines whether it needs UMC approval or not? Colleges and departments are welcome to put their own resources to work in creating various marketing pieces. However, in accordance with SFA policy, any document or project, including PowerPoint presentations, flyers and brochures, that will be seen by off-campus audiences must be reviewed by UMC and approved before use.

This rule can apply to events that occur on campus but whose audience is composed of individuals with no or limited campus affiliation.

Examples:

  • Showcase SFA
  • Orientation
  • Conferences

Off-campus pieces

University HOP policy 05-707 states that a UMC staff member must render final approval on a piece before it is sent to be printed or distributed to outside audiences.

On-campus pieces

Any piece that is strictly being distributed to current students, faculty or staff does not need UMC approval. Even so, UMC is happy to lend its editing and creative services to help liven up any publication.

When to Contact Us

  • A good rule of thumb: contact our department as soon as you know a project is needed. The more time we have for research and the creative process, the better.
  • Our general rule is to allow for a 10-day turnaround time on minor editing, writing and proofreading projects.
  • More complex pieces, like design, web and video projects, require more time for content writing, layout and multiple levels of approval and proofing.
  • Individual printing companies have their own timelines, but most request a minimum of several weeks’ notice, so keep that in mind as you prepare your project’s timeline. UMC does not print projects but can lend assistance with printing, including bidding projects to printers.
