The mission of the SFA Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program is to insure that ALL vendors receive full and equal opportunity to participate in contracting opportunities through race-, ethnic-, and gender-neutral policies.
The Director of Purchasing and Inventory serves as the official HUB Coordinator for the University.
What Is A Historically Underutilized Business (HUB)?
A HUB is defined as a business with its principal place of business in
Texas formed for the purpose of making a profit and that is otherwise
a legally recognized business organization under the laws of the State
of Texas and that meets the following requirements:
- At least 51% of the assets and interest and at least 51% of any classes of stock and equitable securities are owned by one or more persons who are United State citizens, born or naturalized.
- These individuals must have a proportionate interest and demonstrate active participation in the control, operation and management of the business' affairs.
- These individuals are recognized by the State of Texas as having been
socially disadvantaged because of their identification as members of
the following groups:
American Women - Women of any ethnicity except those specified herein;
Asian Pacific American - Persons whose origins are from Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines, Samoa, Guam, the U. S. Trust Territories of the Pacific, the Northern Marianas, and Subcontinent Asian Americans which includes persons whose origins are from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan or Nepal;
Black American - Persons having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa;
Hispanic American - Persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish or Portuguese culture or origin, regardless of race;
Native American - Persons who are American Indians, Eskimos, Aleuts, or Native Hawaiins.
Minority or woman owned businesses who meet the eligibility requirements stated above are encouraged to be certified by the State of Texas as a Historically Underutilized Business by completing a HUB certification application.
