Editor's Notes

We begin this issue of RE:AL with a round of thanks for those who've been especially helpful to our publication. Among the many who have assisted us are the new leaders of our department and college: Professor Molly Smith, Chair of the Department of English and Philosophy, and Professor Robert Szafran, Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Though only in office for a few months, both already have gone the extra mile for our journal. In addition to these two supporters, we must extend our most sincere thanks to Dr. David Jeffrey in the Office of Graduate Studies and Research Development. Dr. Jeffrey has been unstinting in his support for RE:AL, and we know he will remain so in the future.

We'd like to offer very special thanks to Professor Dillard Tinsley, Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing here at SFASU. Dr. Tinsley is a longtime editorial reader for the journal. His literary acumen remains a mainstay in our journal's editorial board, and there's just no way we can indicate his importance in maintaining RE:AL's quality. Thanks, Dillard!

In this issue we offer what we consider to be a fine selection of poetry, short fiction, and nonfiction prose. Among the verse offerings we are especially proud of works by Cyd Adams, Walt McDonald, Terri D. Klein, Gay Baines, Penny Cagan, et al—some of whom have published in our journal in the past, and some of whom have works appearing in RE:AL for the first time. In addition, we extend to our readers the highquality poetry of Doug McNamee, Ryan G. Van Cleave, Robert Parham, Brad Buchanan, Anne Mabry, and the efforts of other writers, the quality of whose writings are not diminished by any lack of additional mention in these preliminary notes. "Prosewise" we include the fictional works of Joonseong Park, Brian Ames, Michael S. Smith, Samuel Reifler, Andrew Geyer, and others. And in nonfiction and criticism we offer articles on Seamus Heaney and one of Robert Wexelblatt's "excavations" from the works of Sidney Fein. Also in this issue we have a "first" for RE:AL, the inclusion of interior artwork—two renderings with paleolithic and Native American overtones—both by former RE:AL coverartist Taylor Jane Ward.

We apologize to those whose names we've failed to mention here in these opening comments, but we offer to our readers the opportunity to enjoy RE:AL's Spring 2001 issue (26,1).
