Expand your experience

When you arrive on campus, you want to feel at home, connect quickly and succeed in your classes. Think of Residential Learning Communities as an inside connection to friendships, fun and the kind of support that can help you be a successful student.

When you sign up for a Residential Learning Community, we give you priority selection to live with other students who have signed up for the same experience, direct mentorship with faculty and staff, and an upperclass student mentor to support you while living and learning at SFA. Residential Learning Communities consist of:

  • student groups residing in the same residential area
  • interacting academically and socially with each other and with faculty members
  • and sharing the same passion, interest or academic focus.

This unique housing opportunity creates an environment for students to succeed academically while developing strong friendships. Students interact with and learn from faculty members in the classroom and within the local community while also building lasting connections with their academic and residential peers.

Residential Learning Communities are located in a specific wing within the other residence halls.

What are the benefits?

Each community has its own group-defined goals and events. However, all communities include:

  • priority room selection
  • valuable relationships with faculty members, peer instructors and upperclass student mentors
  • rich, meaningful connections to the classroom
  • unique opportunities for students to learn and grow through a variety of activities and events, including peer study groups
  • support from staff members dedicated to cultivating successful student leaders
  • ability to explore your major or interests on a deeper level
  • and a welcoming, tight-knit community that extends to life throughout campus and beyond.

What is the cost?

  • There is no additional cost to participate.
  • Students pay the same housing rate as other students in their building.

First-year Residential Learning Communities

Education Studies

Are you interested in becoming a teacher? If so, this is the Residential Learning Community for you! Join fellow education studies majors in learning what it takes to become a teacher or a leader in the education industry. This community will allow you to interact with faculty and participate in activities related to your major.

Esports

Join students who also enjoy playing Esports! Did you know SFA has an Esports Club, too?

SFA esports offers so much more for students than mere competition. Behind the scenes, students run our marketing, media, operations, club teams and promotions, and they have the opportunity to become club coaches and team analysts.

All club players and coaches are SFA students, so not only do we give students the chance to learn teamwork and cooperation, but students also function as coaches by providing team leadership and management. This program gives our players a chance to represent their school as official players, earn scholarships and learn about the fast-growing esports industry.

Our signed student-athletes compete against the best collegiate players throughout the community.
