How to join ROTC at SFA

There are 3 ways to join the SFA Lumberjack ROTC Battalion:

  1. Walk in and sign up.
  2. Military service either through Active Duty, National Guard or Army Reserve.
  3. Earn an ROTC scholarship.

Our 4 year program consists of 2 years of the Basic Course which does not have a service obligation or financial benefits UNLESS you sign a contract with us. The Basic Course consists of 2 one hour classes, a lab, and 3 days of physical training weekly. The second part of our program is the Advance Course and this is only for the contracted cadets who plan to serve as Army Officers.

Our scholarship option is very competitive. The minimum qualifications are:


Due to the large number of students applying for these scholarships, there are additional factors known as Scholar, Athlete, and Leader criteria used to select only the best applicants.

Scholar

-Valedictorian/Salutatorian

-Membership in National Honor Society

-Honors or Advanced Placement Program graduate

-GPA over 3.0 and SAT/ACT over 1100/24

-Top 10% of class and either

-GPA over 3.0 or

-SAT/ACT score above 1100/24

Athlete

-Varsity Letter from HS team

-Member of regional/city/competitive league

-Either active involvement in organized competitive team sports or active involvement in individual athletic competitions (triathlon, mountain biking, running, martial arts, etc)

Leader

-Elected member of student government, class, activity

-Captain of athletic or academic team

-Eagle Scout/Gold Star

-Served in position of responsibility in school/club or private organization and leader in volunteer service organizations/activities

SAL criteria are Yes or No answers. You must have at least 2 of the SAL factors and one must be under Athlete.
