Research activity is currently focused on teaching issues, such as frequency of testing and its effect on "learning." Other interests include issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity as well as relationship issues such as the differences between couples who meet face-to-face and those who meet on the internet.

Physiological/Comparative and History of Psychology
Comparative investigations of sensory systems across species, including transduction, coding, psychophysics and ethological aspects of various sensory systems with emphasis on vision and chemoreception. Research interests also include the relationships between nutritional/dietary factors as precursors to major neurotransmitters and possible consequent effects on behavior. Certain issues in the history of science with particular emphasis on the evolution of current concepts in Psychology are also of interest.

Current research interests are racial profiling in vehicle stops by police officers, stigmatization of disadvantaged groups, Americans response to terrorism, cross-cultural issues as in immigrants' adjustment behaviors, and positive psychology.

Areas of current research in Cognitive Psychology include selective and divided attention, assessment of meaning representation, and word recognition. Another cognitive area of interest is multicultural and age-related change in attention and memory.

Comparative
Research interests include comparative cognition and behavior, and more specifically, elephant cognition and behavior with an emphasis on tactile communication in Asian elephants (Elephas maximus).  I am also interested in applying research on comparative cognition to conservation and educational purposes.

Research interests focus broadly on the factors that put youth and young adults at risk for adjustment difficulties. Most of my research to date has focused on factors that promote and discourage bullying in
elementary and middle school youth. I am also interested in what, if anything, the chronic targets of bullying can do to reduce future victimization, and why some children defend the target of bullies while
others encourage the bullies to pick on peers.

Current research interests include eyewitness memory and composite construction;  more specifically, how the composite construction process can influence a witness’ memory for the culprit.  Research interests also include eyewitness decision making, focusing on an examination of lineup identification methods and their influence on eyewitness decisions.
