Sweet Hats and Pie!

Sweet Hats and Pie!
Reception and lecture for the exhibit, "Old Hat! 100 Years of Headgear"

Sunday, October 19th, 2 - 5p.m.

Celebrate fall by pulling out your best (or worst) hat and head over to the Stone Fort Museum to explore a display of 65 hats, caps and bonnets dating from 1850 to 1950. Everything from the ubiquitous sunbonnet to the popular fedora is on display. Find the platter, the tambourine, the homburg, the cartwheel, the snood, the flat cap, the skimmer, and more!

To help you step into history, we'll have our own "portrait studio" set up, so wear your favorite hat and pose for posterity! Learn how to make a paper hat for yourself or a friend, then stroll a few feet north to the Kennedy Auditorium to hear fashion historian, Rebecca Jumper Matheson, talk about hats of the twentieth century. Author of The Sunbonnet: An American Icon in Texas, Matheson is a former research assistant at The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has taught in the History of Art Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She will present, "Pinnacle of Fashion: Hats of the Twentieth Century."
